In this exclusive interview with TurnTable Charts, RAGEE sheds more light on picking up music production, his work experience, and the consequential shift in his career after the Grammy nomination.
TTC: Hello. Can you please introduce yourself to TurnTable Charts? What made you venture into music production?
RAGEE: My name’s RAGEE and I'm a music producer, songwriter, and entertainer. Going into music production was about me wanting to produce my own songs. I used to be a rapper and then a singer. I liked my music coming out with the same idea I visualised. I learnt to do the job myself, however, I ended up producing for others.
TTC: Your big break in the music industry was Bad Boy Timz’s “Have Fun” in 2020. How have you stayed consistent since then?
RAGEE: I’ve remained consistent by putting in more work. Networking with every other artistes, meeting up, and connecting with them at events. I also improved my craft and production skills by trying to be better than I was yesterday. All in all, hard work keeps me consistent.
TTC: You produced “UNAVAILABLE” and “PICASSO” on Davido’s 4th album, ‘Timeless’. “Unavailable” debuted at No. 3 on the Official Nigeria Top 100, peaked at No. 2 and spent 32 weeks on the chart. Would you run us through the creative process and production of such a masterpiece?
RAGEE: The process was great. While making the beat, I didn’t know it would end up with Davido. I made that beat like I do every other day in the studio. My very good friend, Magicsticks called me, informed me of Davido’s album project, and told me to send whatever I had. I did (after six months of having it) and Davido loved it. The rest is history.
TTC: Your hit records have received several certifications as well as two Grammy nominations. How have these accomplishments influenced your professional experience?
RAGEE: It made me know nothing is impossible and there’s no limit to what anyone can do. The nomination came fast and to be honest, it was surprising. It energised me to put in more effort. Since then, I’ve produced Ayra Starr’s “Commas” and “Woman Commando”. I also co-produced Chris Brown’s “Sensational” featuring Davido and Lojay. I produced King Promise’s “Paris”, too. Everything makes me realise I can do more.
TTC: Your collaborations with so many artistes span across several genres of music. Are there any other artistes or particular genres you'd like to work with?
RAGEE: It’s music. I’m open to working with any artiste that’s willing to collaborate or connect.
TTC: Do you have any forthcoming projects for your fans to look forward to?
RAGEE: I have a lot going on. There’s one with Adekunle Gold and I produced “Stronger” by Young Jonn. My own song titled Oshimiri featuring Logos olori and Peruzzi was released in June. Stay tuned, there’s more coming soon.
